Summary

James joined Chambers in November 2007, following successful completion of pupillage at Old Square Chambers.

Areas of Practice

Civil
James undertakes a full range of civil work including employment law, personal injury, road traffic claims, contractual disputes, and property litigation.

He appears for both claimants and respondents in the Employment Tribunal at all stages of proceedings in all areas of employment law including unfair dismissal, discrimination, victimisation, TUPE, breach of contract, and wages claims. James also appears in the Employment Appeal Tribunal. He is regularly instructed to advise on contentious and non-contentious employment law issues. James has recently delivered seminars and training on enforcing Employment Tribunal decisions and on the National Minimum Wage Act 1998.

James has a general personal injury practice. He has acted on behalf of claimants and defendants in fast track and small claims trials and has also appeared before the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeal Panel. He is happy to advise or draft pleadings in personal injury claims. James also undertakes interlocutory hearings such as case management conferences and applications, including strike out and summary judgment.

James is in the process of establishing a practice in the field of professional disciplinary proceedings.

Crime
In addition to civil work, James has experience of a full range of criminal defence work and has regularly appeared in the Magistrates’ and Youth Courts. He has also prosecuted on behalf of Serco.

Immigration
James has represented clients in the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal.
